This is the second day (fifth na by the time I post this) that I'm going bonkers over "vlogbrothers". Well, to my monotonous life, that's actually making me giddy. It's like finding a new purpose in life, watching vlog from their channel! HAHAHAHA.
Anywho, loving John Green momentarily happened on the peek to fame of his TFIOS. I mean, who didn't watch that film.
Imaginary reader that didn't: WELL, there's me.Me: OH. AHM. SORRY ABOUT THAT, no offense meant.Imaginary reader that didn't, and is still replying to this imaginary conversation: none, taken.
Yeah, so TFIOS. The lives of Hazel Grace and Gus will forever be imbedded in my heart (was supposed to say hearts, but dammnit, I'm not the Doctor). So anyway, after TFOIS, I read The Abundance of Katherines. Which I really find interesting because of the footnotes and attempt to show mathematical hollabaloo along the way. But, it ended there. I knoww, I'm sorry! Not really a fan of Paper Towns (the movie), but I might give it another try soon.
WAIT, ALL THIS FANGIRLING OVER VLOGBROTHERS AND JOHN GREEN SHOULD BE IN A SEPARATE BLOG POST TO MAKE THIS POST SHORTER, SO THERE...
AFTER THAT VERY LONG INTRO, allow me now talk about THIS book (dedicated blog post) - Looking for Alaska.
Disclaimer, this actually happened.Me (holding the book, reading in a not well-lit room): ATEEE!Ate J: o?Me: meron tayong Alaska (referring to the canned milk. Damnit, will ask for them to buy me one. Magandang IG photo props yun).Ate J: walaMe: (saying "ANYONE? ANYONE?" in my head looking from one side to another. O God, I'm so fckin hilarious!)
About the book: told on the perspective of Miles Halter's aka Pudge, who transferred to Culver Creek Boarding School to seek his great perhaps. Pudge was not really the type of person who have friends but that changes when he meet his roommate Chip aka The Colnel, alongside with Lara, Takumi, and Alaska Young.
What made me fall in love for the book: you know probably by now that I've had this fear of death (that sometimes does not manifest at all, but there are still some triggers that makes me paranoid), while reading the book the fear came back. All of a sudden, I remembered this episode from Doctor Who (Okay, sorry sa pagshift ng fandom worlds, inevitable na ata e), where Danny Pink died and he was led in this another world and that another world symbolizes the after life. That creepy place where he was that had this 3W that keeps on being repeated (which morbidly is don't cremate me). ANG HABA! SORRY! Anyway, at the end of the book, let's just say that my soul was redeemed, faith restored, and paranoia well hidden!
I also love the idea for an impossible quest. Yah know, when you start doing something impossible and the main characters decided to let it go. I guess that's a bit relatable as well, since sometimes, we almost always try so hard and find it difficult to let go. Wait, that thing varies, okay? I've been struggling and trying for the past 3 years (on my 4th year na technically) but to see little improvements are little victories for me. Ah basta, there are things that we know for ourselves are impossible and yet it's hard for us to let go.
Pudge, the Colonel, Takumi, and Lara have been looking for Alaska, when really, all they wanted was a closure. Pak! Hahahaha.
Was able to finish the book in a day because, 1. I'm a nerdfighter, 2. my brain cannot just stop looking for Alaska (ha ha ha), and 3. I just really appreciate John Green's way of telling a story.
I really don't understand how this book have not yet been turned into film. I mean, look at it! It's a crazy story awaiting for crazy people to give justice to it. TBH, I also like the idea that I'm reading it in a way that my imagination is not limited on who the character is. Like for Pudge, I've been portaying him as a John Green on my mind (also the way John Green talks) so that's amazing.
I wanted to say that this book is a light read, but it isn't since I've got goosebumps and random sadness and anxiety and contentment while I was reading.
Read at your own risk. (But, I definitely recommed it still. Hahahaha).
PS. "[i]f people were rain, I was drizzle and she was hurricane.
